Crude and refined palm oil, including CP8 and CP10 palm olein, delivered in bulk, flexitank and jerry cans.
We move crude and refined palm oil between Southeast Asian producers and African consuming markets, controlling quality, inspection and documentation across the physical chain. Demand across our African markets is driven by food manufacturing and household consumption, both of which require steady supply at consistent quality.
The oil palm is native to West Africa, where its fruit has been pressed for oil for thousands of years. Commercial cultivation moved to Southeast Asia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and Indonesia and Malaysia now account for the large majority of world production.
The reason palm displaced other oils is agronomic rather than commercial. The oil palm yields several times more oil per hectare than any other oil crop — considerably more than soybean, rapeseed or sunflower. That efficiency made palm the most widely produced vegetable oil in the world, and is why palm-derived products appear across cooking oil and food manufacturing throughout Africa.
Palm fruit grows in dense bunches, and once cut it must reach the mill quickly — within roughly a day — or enzymatic activity raises free fatty acid content and degrades the oil. This is why palm mills are built inside the plantations they serve.
Crude palm oil is degummed, neutralised, bleached and deodorised — the process that gives RBD its name. The result is a neutral, stable oil suitable for food use. Crude palm oil, unrefined, is also traded in its own right for further processing.
Because palm oil contains both liquid and solid fractions at ambient temperature, it can be separated by controlled cooling and filtration. The liquid fraction is olein, used as cooking oil; the solid fraction is stearin, used in shortenings and margarine.
Palm olein is specified by cloud point — the temperature in degrees Celsius at which the oil begins to turn cloudy as solids start to form. A CP10 olein clouds at around ten degrees; a CP8 at around eight. The lower the cloud point, the more thoroughly the oil has been fractionated and the longer it stays clear in a warmer climate.
We trade both CP8 and CP10 palm olein, alongside crude palm oil for buyers who refine or process further themselves. Getting the grade right is a practical question set against the destination market's climate and retail conditions, not an abstract quality marker.
Palm oil is among the most heavily traded of all vegetable oils, and its trade structure is unusually concentrated: a small number of Southeast Asian origins supply a very large number of destinations worldwide. African demand is driven by household cooking-oil consumption and food manufacturing, and is characteristically served in packed formats rather than bulk alone — which is why packing capability at origin matters as much as access to the oil itself.
Our own book sources from Indonesia and Malaysia and delivers exclusively into African markets — we do not currently sell edible oils into Asian destinations.
Products, origins, packing and delivery terms for our edible oils trading activity.
We deliver edible oils exclusively into African markets — we do not currently sell into Asian destinations.
We source from established processors in Indonesia and Malaysia. For edible oils, where supply-chain and environmental risk is most material, we require sourcing documentation and give preference to certified and traceable supply chains.
We are committed to increasing the proportion of RSPO-aligned supply in our Palm Olein book. See our Sustainable Sourcing page for our approach.
